    Dear Bowe,

I was very excited to hear of your return from the mountains of Afghanistan. During the years of 2009 to 2013 I had worked in Bagram and Kandahar as a a Contract FSR.. Your captivity was on my mind continually during the years I spent working abroad. The days that most reminded me of your captivity was during the holidays. Your photos were on AFN with your story of captivity and the latest news for your search on the TV’s in the DFAC for everyone to see. I also missed my family during these years, but i could not image the pain your family was living while you were away. I am glad you are back, and I wish you the best. Looking forward to meeting you someday.

    Terry Rutch

  2. Bowe, I want to say thank you for resisting the tortures of captivity and remaining strong in the face of the worst adversity. I am so proud of you!! Thank you today of all days, VETERANS DAY! Stay safe and remember we love you!!! Sincerely, a Montanan.

just saw you in the news. can’t believe how messed up our gov. is. God bless you . said a prayer for you today!

  4. I hope and pray Bowe is doing well, Many of us in the POW/MIA community are behind this very brave young man 100%. My father was a POW and I have a grandson in the Army. A grateful nation thanks Bowe for his service and sacrifice. There is no way to repay him for suffering 5 years in the hands of the enemy. For now, accept our love, honor and respect.

    • What a beautiful comment! The month of June was a very hard time for many of us, and hearing this, I hope is healing, for Bowe’s friends and supporters, for his family, most of all, for him.

  7. Welcome Home, Bowe Bergdahl!! Your release was the most positive news over last 7 years. Disregard any negativity you may hear. You sacrificed more than many others and gained a better understanding of life from your experience. God Bless you and your family.

  13. First, thank you for having the courage 99 percent of us don’t. You voluntarily put yourself in harms way to fight for our country. I’m sure there are many people you encountered and inspired. It’s amazing to have you home, and I want to thank God for your safe return. Take your time in healing. Things happen, and then there is peace. A realization of what is happening. Keep your head up. We don’t know each other, Bowe, but I’m grateful for you. Please take your time healing and finding yourself again. Peace be with you, Sir.
Robert, I don’t understand men as much as I thought. I thought any man would go to any lengths to get his son back from war. Evidently, you’re the only man on Earth, that I know who would, and has. I cannot imagine your joy in this reunion five years in the making.

  14. Dear Bowe and family,
I just wanted to let you know I support you guys 100 percent. I remember hearing of your story after all the controversy blew up. I had a friend ask me what I thought. I looked into it and I felt like people were being so mean and spreading so many lies. I can never say I know what happened the weeks or day Bowe went missing. Bowe is the only one that will ever know what happened. All I know is that we will never leave a solider behind. Welcome home. I feel that the Bergdahl family truly raised Bowe right. In some articles it shed light into what Bowe was experienced. Its rare to find a person who is compassionate about other humans, Its rare to see someone who finds beauty in such a warzone. I feel as though the Bergdahl family are very much free spirts . I hope after being held captive that the same Bowe still remains and that free spirt still remains.
Thank you for all you have done

    Dear Bowe and Family,

I just wanted you to know that my support for you and your family is unwavering. Be well and heal.

    All the best,

    Tracy

    • Thank you, Sgt. Bergdahl, and your awesome family, for your humility, grace, courage, humanity, and wisdom in the face of so much ugliness. Truly, your story is an inspiration to the world at a time when we need people like you more than ever.

      Sincerely,

  16. My heart goes out to you and your family. There are many of us whom want you to know that we are outraged by the Republicans vicious ignorant responses about your release. We are outraged by the way they are promoting such ignorance within their base of supporters. We want you and your family to know there are many, many people whom sincerely care about you and we wish to help all that we can. We support you 100% and will speak out against the vicious ignorance from the Right-wing idiots!!!

  17. Dear Bowe,

You are finally FREE!!!! Your journey home, toward Health & Happiness will be long & difficult, full of challenges.

I wish I could hold your hand & look in to your eyes & tell you to your face: YOU HAVE ENDURED SO MUCH PAIN & SUFFERING! I AM A GRATEFUL AMERICAN CITIZEN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COURAGE & STRENGTH!

No one can ever know what you lived thru. I am sending you ALL MY PRAYERS for your Strength & Peace, so that you may be healed quickly & return home to your friends & family.

You were NEVER FORGOTTEN, ALWAYS LOVED & your life will be filled with love & laughter soon.

    With LOVE & GRATITUDE,

  18. Dear Bowe and Family,

I hope you are reunited soon! I have recently seen videos of your family on the news and it reminds me of my family. I wish that everyone in this country was as contemplative and down to earth as you folks are.

I can’t imagine what you have endured, and will continue to endure until you are at peace with what happened. Perhaps one day you will be able to tell your story. Whatever path you choose, I wish you the best.

  19. Dear Bowe and Family,
I am so sorry to hear all the negative press re your release, etc. You are a soldier fighting a war for the USA. You are one of us and you have been a prisoner of war. I am so happy that you are now free, and whatever the circs of the situation, you are still an AMERICAN SOLDIER. Your family and friends love you, and cherish your release. I know the celebration has been cancelled in your hometown, but there will still be celebrating when you are reunited with the people who love and miss you. I am so sorry that there are so many mean spirited people in this country and I am so sorry that the press has been so horrible in reporting your story.
Please take care and I hope your family will remain strong and vigilant with you as you come home.
    Karen, USA

  20. Dear Bowe,

Welcome home. As you begin your journey back to the life you knew before becoming a POW, you may hear about people who are saying negative things about you and the deal made to bring you home. Please always know that for every naysayer, there are many more who celebrate your return… Many more who consider you a hero, in the truest sense of the word… Many who never forgot you and will always remember you, your courage, your strength, and your bravery… Many more, Bowe, MANY MORE…

My heart breaks for you and the pain you have endured. There is a long road ahead of you, but you are free to walk it. And that is cause for celebration. YOU ARE FREE! I hope that you can find ways to celebrate every day as you make your way back to Bowe.

    Welcome home, Bowe, welcome home.

    With much respect and admiration,
Rebecca Johnson (an American citizen who appreciates and always remembers the absolute courage of you and your family. Thank you.)

  21. Jamie Wong says:

    Bowe,
Thank you for being a soldier with a heart. By heart I mean being someone who respects the sacredness of life and who values humanity. Those are the impressions I’ve gathered from the news even though I don’t know you personally. Thank you for your bravery and not forgetting the most important values in life. I wish you strength and protection from any undeserved adversity.
Wishing you a reunion with your family soon,
    Jamie, USA

  22. Cindy Ladd says:

Welcome home, Bowe! I’m happy that you’ve found your way back to America. I wish the best for you and your family, but most of all I wish you peace and contentment.

  23. All the best, I hope you make a full recovery

  24. I pray that you and your family are safe, healthy, and at peace. God be with you all!

  25. Regardless of circumstances, we got an American soldier home to his family. Kudos to Hailey Idaho, the Bergdahl family, and to Bowe. There is more to us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less.

  26. Dear Bowe and family,
As an Idahoan, I had been particularly saddened by your continued captivity over the last 5 years. It makes me cry to think that you will be able to live your life in peace and freedom now with your loving family. Many, many blessings to you, and congratulations from the Kavanagh family in Boise, ID.

    Alison

    • Hi Bowe and the Mom & Dad Units!

I too am an Idahoan, living in Boise. I have followed your journey for quite some time and have always hoped only for the very best for you and your family. I still do. I know that we’ll meet one day. I feel that in my heart! I look forward to that day! And when that day comes, it won’t be to mull over all of the crap surrounding your life. My dream of meeting you is to be your friend. A Peer, right here, to support you. A phone call away. An email away. A Coffee Shop Away….LOL What I’m saying is after all you have experienced and will continue to experience, will only make you a much stronger and wiser man. The number one thing that you can do right now, is to take care of yourself. I call this being kindly selfish. You must put yourself first! Do things you enjoy. Surround yourself with good, genuine, kind, giving, and positive people. (as best you can) Get creative by breaking out old hobbies or finding new ones. I have found that building a birdhouse, is one of my favorite new found hobbies. It takes my mind off of everything around me. I am focused only on giving the greatest birdhouse to any ole’ bird that will claim it. Once I’ve completed it and I see the Squirrels using it, well, that brings the greatest smile to my face! At least it’s being used. Well, I’m here for you Bowe. Don’t forget to come up for a breath of fresh air. Play. And, when it rains, don’t miss a single puddle!!! Crystal Out.

  27. There’s a hard road ahead of you, Sergeant but at least you are free and on your way home. We are overjoyed that you are free at last. We are America and We leave no man behind…

  28. jagsam says:

    Dear Bowe,

My family and I have been waiting for five years to see you released from the bonds of captivity. We never forgot you. Now we are overjoyed for you and your parents! May you always remember that many people ADMIRE your courage to be true to your own conscious. History is full of great people who also followed their own hearts and minds, despite disapproval of others. Sometimes their acts of courage fostered tremendous changes in the world – changes for which we’re very grateful today. You are truly a remarkable human being!

Hope you return home to your family soon. Until then, get well and be well.

  32. Dear Bowe,

Welcome home! You have endured enough and you deserve to be safe at home with your family. It truly saddens me that people are so quick to judge without knowing all the facts or believing only what they hear on the news. Please know that not everyone shares the same negative feelings that are being paraded around in the media. I believe you are a good man and that you have suffered greatly at the hands of evil people. You have been through enough and deserve a positive homecoming. I hope that you can be reunited with your family soon so that you can start to heal around others that love and care about you. I think about you often and pray for you.

Sending prayers and love your way!

  33. Don Fletcher says:

I’m happy you are finally able to come come. I’m shocked and saddened by the fair weather friends who’ve shown their lack of loyalty participating in the mobbish hate fest that has been going on since your release. It is, in my opinion anti-American, and anti-christian the manner in which people have been spewing hate and propagating rumor. I don’t know the facts. But I know that this is a time for joy for your family. Don’t pay attention to those haters, but find comfort in your reunion. God bless you.

  34. katann2014 says:

Welcome home. We are praying for your fast recovery.

  35. De Sledge says:

WELCOME HOME BOWE!!!! We have waited for this day, many people sent cards, letters to the White House and many calls. Almost a million Xmas cards were sent this past Xmas, like me I’m sure so many feel like family!! I’m a mother and haven’t seen my kids in 5 years but that’s because of distance, jobs and raising their families, they’re are on American soil and not held captive. But I can imagine what your Mom’s been going thru, I lost a 21 yr old daughter to suicide, so you take time, get physically & mentally healthy, Mom & Dad will wait! Sending Prayers, Love, Strength and most of all PEACE to you Bowe and your Family ❤ ❤

  37. Dear Bowe
You don’t know me – I am just a fellow US citizen who is very happy for your return. It is a courageous act to go against the tide to follow one’s conscience. I have a lot of respect for you. Sending you wishes for a peaceful and healing next chunk of life. I hope that from your surroundings, you receive only support and compassion.

I am so glad your safe Bowe. I’ve prayed for you for years. You are really loved. As you know. I am your age and lost both of my parents in my early twenties, and seeing your parents show their love for you actually comforts me. Don’t loose sight of how strong you are. Love to you, Christin

  40. May God Bless you. Ignore the hate mongers, the flip-floppers, and those jealous soldiers who want a coming home celebration, but did not get one.

  41. Dear Bowe,
For the last eight months I’ve kept a photo of you near my desk. Every day I have looked at it and wondered about you. I prayed that you would not feel abandoned, and that whatever happened you would be able to endure it with peace. I am so very relieved and glad that you are back home. I hope that you will take very good care of yourself. Allow yourself to feel, and allow those who love you to care for you.
    Sincerely,
    Iris

  42. Barry Baker says:

Bowe Bergdahl Thank God you are home! You and your family have my love. I have no words other than I wish you peace but I know life will be hard. Have strength in your family. Family is the strongest bond.

  43. Jenna Smith says:

Welcome Home Bowe. I’m sure that anyone who knows of your situation has a position on it but I know that you have a story to tell and refuse to believe anything before I hear it from your own mouth. For now, I am just rejoicing that your mother can finally rest, knowing that you are safe. You have quite the journey ahead of you, sir, but in knowing how many people prayed for your safe return, I am confident that your prayer warriors will not give up on you now. Good luck to you.

  44. vmstevens1 says:

    To BOWE’s family:
I cannot imagine going through the past 5 years without your son. Bowe, you’re a survivor. You have lost 5 years of your life. But now it is time to heal, return home. And regain those years with people who love you because they know you personally. And with millions of others who have been praying for you and have come to love you. What you will face as you re-enter “normalcy” will be difficult. Like learning how to walk again after being paralyzed. Overcoming whatever fears that you may face. But never give up, sir. Your supporters will never know what you endured as a prisoner of war. We can never imagine what you must overcome now. I pray that you come back to the USA healthy and rested. Take your time! You deserve it!

    • Bob, Jani and Bowe, you will ALWAYS have my support! God bless you, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. (And as for Hailey, ID, I hope “cancelled” just means “postponed!”) Stay strong! Love, Suzanne Schroeder

  45. Sgt. Bowe,
I have been following your saga for awhile and have been praying for you. I rejoice that you are free. Your consciousness is respected and appreciated – I relate. When we become AWARE – we are changed. There is no stopping it. The Source is speaking at that moment. We are then faced with deep soul choices. I am moved by your SINCERITY and COURAGE. I hope you have a beautiful welcoming celebration at home to be with your family. Peace, Keith

  46. Steven Mccoy says:

Bo, few know the inner torment of a warrior. Sent into a war torn town to hunt and kill the wolves; but wanting to stop and help the kids, old, starving, injured.

You saw no way out. You lost friends. You knew you were never going home alive.

I believe you couldn’t bridge gap between your own need to do good, and the mission needs to see every local as a target. Unable to endanger your fellows, wisely not willing to hurt yourself and, again, burden your team you walked. Expecting to either help people or, at least, harm none. If a bomb found you, at least it would be one that never found your fellows. If the local warriors found you they would find a valid target. Either way your hopelessness would end.

You couldn’t know they would keep you alive. You never planned on being alive to be rescued. For you, every captive day and every situation was another day that shouldn’t have happened.

You knew you were lost. You hoped everyone had moved on.

With a heart full of unknowable ache you were guided to a US helicopter. You boarded and, reportedly, as the chopper flew on, a crew member said “we have been looking for you for a long time!”

    You wept.

Please write of your time. Even those who are sure they already know “the truth” need to hear your story.

    Dear Bowe:
I have been following your case since someone (probably a member of your family) gave me a bracelet with your name on it when I visited D.C. last summer.
I am really happy to know you are safe and back home. I wish you all the best

  51. kgecik says:

    Dear Bowe & Family,

It was a hot summer day in San Diego when I heard a young solider had been captured by the Taliban. A young man the same age as my youngest brother, who had also served there. I felt sick. I was terrified they would behead you. I couldn’t watch your videos because they made me cry too much, but I was always glad to hear there was another one. After a while I was angry–why was this story fading? Where was the outrage? I was determined to never forget you. I prayed for you. I thought about you and your family a lot, especially on holidays. I told everyone about you. I shared stories on Facebook to keep your name out there. I wish I could have done more.

My mom called me with the news of your freedom. She was screaming with joy, I could only understand “your boy” “Afghanistan” and “free.” What are you talking about? I asked her. Then it dawned on me. “Bowe Bergdahl is free??!!” I was screaming too.

I don’t know what happened that June night wIhen you disappeared. I don’t know what your mental state was, I’ve never known the stresses of a war zone. And frankly, I don’t care. I’m just glad you are home. Many people are angry with you. They want the real story, I think we all do. I hope you will be honest with us and yourself, free yourself further.

The hard days are over, but harder days may be ahead. I still support you through these heavy days. We don’t know you, Bowe, but we love you. We don’t know you, Bowe’s parents, but we heard your cries of anguish and cried along with you. Now is a time of healing, happiness, honesty, and continued support.

God Bless You, Bowe & family. Much love. Kelley

  52. Mildred Blackburn says:

THANK YOU so much for putting your life on the line to serve our country and protect our freedom. My heart aches to hear about all the pain and suffering what you had to go through. You are a true hero (God’s angel) in every sense of the word and i don’t know what this world would be like if we didn’t have angels like you in it! May God bless you and ALWAYS be by your side and give you the strength to carry on. I keep praying for world peace and love for mankind so no one would have to suffer this ordeal ever again! Remember, you will always be in my thoughts, prayers, and my heart. God loves you and he’s working on big plans for you in your life.Just hold on and pray without ceasing!
    Hugs,

  53. Julie Moran says:

Welcome Back, Bowe! We haven’t stopped praying and waiting for this day! Please hang tough for the rest of your life when those nightmares come. Get help when you need it. You deserve every bit of help you need because you’ve been through the most awful thing humans can endure. Your sacrifice will be life long, and please allow yourself to be supported by close friends and family while you grieve and are angry for what you’ve been through. Please stay safe, live long, and prosper!

  54. Deborah Mann says:

Wow. I cannot imagine your state of mind right now. Hang in there. Everything will sort it’s self out You have had a whole Nation praying for you. We will continue to do so. ” Do not lean on your own understanding ” if it were me it would be hard to understand why God left me there. You may never know but He does. I hope you trust Him enough to believe that. Good luck. You are a HERO. Your Country is so proud to have you back! Best wishes for your Loved Ones as well. Welcome home!

  55. Mary Dichard says:

    Hi,

I have followed your story for years, and upon waking up this morning and hearing of your release I have been crying years of joy. It is truly a gift that you have been set free and the country once again has hope. Many Military groups here in Texas have kept your story alive through social media, although many years have passed you were never forgotten. I can only imagine what you have been through, but please know that you are not alone. You have the minds and hearts of many Americans, and no matter what has happened you have us.

I wish you a happy life Sir, you deserve it so much! Slay your dragons and be strong…good luck to you.

    Mary

  56. Charlotte Copeman says:

To the Bowe Family: HUGE congratulations, I have just heard that your son is safe. You are so lucky and i’m shedding a tear for the tough times you have had and do have ahead. I haven’t read the bad press and I don’t want to, man survives in many ways and all that is important is that he has survived and he is coming home to you. It’s easy for us all to judge when we have not been there and what’s important now is peace and recovery for you all. You’re in my prayers. Charlotte, Hove, UK.

  57. Dear Sgt. Bergdahl,

I consider you a hero, and I consider your parents heroes as well. Your experience and the manner in which your parents have served as inspirations to all Americans is something that has truly touched me. My latest article in The Huffington Post was written to support you, illustrate my belief that ANY price was worthy of bringing you home, and address any detractors. Thank you for your service to our nation and your return home is a great day for the country. Here is my article and I hope you find it interesting:

My message is for yourself and all your family…especially for your dad and mum…in thankfulness and humility at how you have all kept the faith of your loving each other.

I am an Aged Parent and my tears are for the devotions of each and all of your family members during your several uninvited endurances

You must each be profoundly human to have nurtured loving through such dark nights of the soul…

In respect and thankfulness to your mum and dad and yourself.

  130. TJ says:

    Dear Bowe,

Thank you for being so brave and serving our country. My grandfather fought in Iwo Jima and I have have always had so much respect for our military and brave soldiers like yourself. You are a hero. My deepest prayer for you as that get the help you need as you arrive home, make a healthy transition, AND ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN FOR WHAT YOU DID.

I didn’t go into the military at the advice of my family after generations of serving. My family was poor and the military offered what seemed like a good solution. Our politicians today sell out to the highest bidder and the jobs have gone overseas. It’s a tough world and you have experienced it like no other. I hope one day that you will use your powerful voice to stand up for what is right. I pray that you get the attention and support you deserve. I’m saddened that this board is not overflowing with love and support, and that some crappy Yahoo.com story of Kim Kardashian gets more response than a true American hero.

Thank you for all that you did. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for protecting us. Thank you for all of the suffering you endured. Thank you for keeping us safe. Thank you for signing up to do what you have done.

Bowe welcome home! I never gave up hope for you!!! In 2010 I went to the la county fair, it was there that I became acquainted with your story…. I was handed a sticker with your face on it and the date of your disappearance…..
I was instantly hopeful that you would return to your family and life… So much so that I kept that sticker and pinned it to my computer at work. I work for the Veterans administration medical hospital as a nurse… Seeing you everyday gave me strength and hope…. i would pray that somehow you would receive my prayers, strengths and hopes and wishes for you….and that you were healthy and well and would come home to your family…
I am beyond happy that you are home and wish you all the best…. When I get back to work I am going to take a picture of that sticker and post it! Truly you are a miracle and give me hope now that you are found for a better future for our veterans… Wishing you and your family lots of prayers and love…may you make a speedy recovery and may your integration back to your life be just as flawless and quick….. I am a new Bowe supporter in that I’ve known of his situation and prayed for him off and on as my sister lives in Ketchum. However recently FB friends have posted a lot about the young soldier captured in Mexico and it made me remember Bowe and research his story. I just shared it on FB last week and then I wrote the Secretary of Defense and made a plea that something be done for this sensitive young man who took ballet lessons; cared for his country, never owned a car….I was surprised to get a response saying they had not forgotten Bowie but were working continually for his release. I appreciated the reply but never thought it was more than an automated response ..until today. What a wonderful surprise I cannot imagine how his parents are feeling. I’m simply a Grandmother in a Kansas and am thrilled beyond words to know this young man endured his captors and will soon be in the arms of his loved ones. I do NOT understand why it took 5 long years but will not dwell on the negative but rejoice in positive thoughts and continued prayer for Bowes return to physical and mental health. It’s a good day.

We have posted about your plight on Facebook and shared with others and asked for continued prayer and look at this, a miracle before our very eyes, you are no longer captive! When I read the post about your freedom, first I had chills and then the tears would not stop flowing. You have so many who have adopted you as family into their hearts and have not forgotten you. I promise you, we never forgot! We celebrate in your release and pray that you will acclimate to this transition back to your home with a peace in your heart that transcends all understanding as God covers you once again and protects you always. Many blessings and love from our family to you and yours! You will continue to be in our prayers soldier.

  255. Denise Koster says:

    To the Bergdahl Family,
I have been sending my thoughts and positive energy to Bowe every day for the past 4 1/2 years that I have had his POW bracelet on my wrist. I held him in my heart day in and day out and never went a day without touching the bracelet and thinking of him …thinking that he needed for people here in the US to stay connected to him and to think of him…and that somehow, this collective energy and connection of so many people would keep him tied to his home. That somehow he would feel that he was never let go.
As a parent, I cannot even imagine what this ordeal has been like to know that you cannot reach your child who needs you. I am beyond overjoyed for you and Bowe to learn he is coming home.
I will not take this bracelet off yet. When he is in the loving arms of his family and friends I will know for sure he is safe and starting to heal.
God bless Bowe as he returns to his home.

God Bless you and yours all the days of your life and…Yes, YOU will dwell in house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23). And, most importantly, The valley and shadow of death is NOW behind you.
Know that you walked thru that valley with grace and dignity that has done your country proud. May you, your Mom, and your Dad now have peace above all understanding.

  354. Lenleigh says:

    Bowe,
I have only known about your imprisonment for a few months, but since I found out, I have been advocating for your release. I have been handing out flyers about you, wearing your wrist band, and telling everyone I know about you. Everyone that I know has added their prayers to mine. When I first heard about you, I thought it could be someone that I knew or me who was in your situation, because I am roughly the same age, I am 24, and I thought how young you are to be take from those you love so soon. I have been praying that you would be lifted up and encouraged to continue to fight to live so that you could come home to see the ones that you love. I have been praying that you would be rescued or released and finally my prayers have been answered! I know that the words I am sorry for all that you have been through will never expand over the vastness of what you have had to endure, but I am so happy that you are alive and safe. I will not say that I understand what you went through, or that I will ever be able to relate to what you will endure in the future as you slowly get back to a semi-normal life, but just know that I will continue to pray for you and your family. May God bless you and your recovery and your family as they find relief in your safety. I pray that you finally find peace and joy and remind others that each day is a gift from God, and that people like you have paid the ultimate price for me and others to enjoy freedom as we do. I am sorry to say but their is great evil in this world, because without it, we would not look forward to going to Heaven, but I am so hurt that people must suffer as you have. Praying that you live each day as they come and take nothing for granted and remind others that they should do the same. Praying that your faith increases and strengthens after this experience and that the love of those around you will encourage your heart to remember the goodness of God and those that love Him. Wishing you all the best. So glad that you are home safe!

I must admit I had not learned about you until a year or so ago, I watch the national news outlets & read the papers online & still only came to learn that the US had a soldier being held by the Taliban thru Facebook posts! I searched the internet after seeing your FB page & I became angry & grateful & amazed all at once! Angry that our government wasn’t doing enough, at the media. Grateful because I am an am American and have the freedoms & rights that go along w/ that because of brave soldiers like Sgt. Bergdahl. I was amazed by your bravery and courage. I know that faced with the same eviliness that you were forced to be in the presence of every day for 5 years that I would not have been able to do it with the dignity, honor, courage, bravery, & respectfully as you did , sir. About 2 weeks ago we went to the Harley Davidson dealership and they had a display set up in preparation for Memorial Day. I grabbed a bracelet with a name on it and headed home. On the way home I realized I had a POW bracelet with the name Bowe Bergdahl. I started praying right then and there for your recovery. That night at home, my 9 year old asked about my bracelet. I did not know of your history or any information, but told my son we needed to pray for you because according to my bracelet, you’d been missing for 5 years. Several days later, he started talking about you again and asking questions. We started praying again and this time I asked God for a miracle. I thought the odds of you still be alive were slim to none but asked God “if there’s any way he’s still alive, get him home now Lord.” Imagine my shock when I looked on my computer today and saw something about a POW being freed. I thought surely that can’t be the same one we’ve been praying for the past 2 weeks….clicked on the link and there you were. I called my 9 year old and he was in tears. We can’t imagine what you’ve been through but I do know the God who worked a miracle getting you home will also work the miracle of complete, total healing. God Bless you.

  500. Pam Hilburn-Mathis says:

Sgt. Bergadhl, We have followed your story from the day of your capture. My husband was a an AF Sgt and retired after 23 years of service. I am a member of the American Legion Post 392 in Panama City Florida and we have honored you and prayed for you during our POW/MIA ceremonies and each and every time we had a gathering at the post. On Tuesday’s we posted the “Bowe Tuesday” picture throughout Facebook to remind everyone that you were still out there waiting to be rescued and brought home. I have talked to my children and grand daughter to remind them of how precious family time is and how you must miss your own family. Today, for many Americans, was a day of celebrations. Thousands and Thousands of people who have followed your story, cried with your family, prayed for your safe return… celebrated today when the news finally came that you had been released and were on your way home. You have a journey ahead of you, I cannot even imagine but your strength to survive this ordeal speaks volumes of your faith, love of family and determination. Don’t let these 5 years define you, change you or hold you back in anything you want to do or accomplish. You had the love and support of a Nation, people who always believed that you would return home. Your family has been strong, stronger than I think I could have been if it were my son, they were determined, they reminded people everyday and did everything in their power to bring you home. You should be very proud of them. I can only imagine they have had an amazing support system around them as well. People who gave them the strength they needed to make it just one more day. And through it all, they waited, counted the days, the hours and the minutes until you were released. From me and my family, I would like to say, Welcome Home Soldier! I will continue to pray for you and your family and you will always be a part of my life just like you have for the last five years. Although I may never meet you in person, you will always be one of those people that I will remember for the rest of my days. The American Soldier that I adopted into my life, held in my heart, prayed for, cried for and rejoiced for on this very special day. Welcome Home, Bowe!

Words cannot explain what you have experienced but know, that your Mom and Pops have been the most committed couple that ever existed. Keep strong, be quiet, reflect and grow from this. Terry Anderson is a family frend, he was kept captive for 6 years and 9 months in Lebanon. He is a formidable character and so are you.

  520. Stephanie Hoffman says:

    Bowe and family,
I’m so elated that you are coming home! I have been crying tears of joy and relief since I learned the wonderful news this morning. Bowe, I met you once. You came through my check stand in Hailey at Albertsons. I had just joined the Army National Guard and we spoke very briefly about the military. You also went to school with my little sister, Katie Eldredge. Since I learned of your capture I have prayed that you would come home safely.
I deployed to Iraq and during my time there I had the opportunity to fly an American flag on the Al Faw Palace in your honor. The commanding officer of the United States Forces in Iraq signed a certificate. I new that your family needed their privacy so when I returned I took the flag and certificate to Zanies Coffee shop. I sincerely hope that the flag makes it’s way to you.
I hope that you make a healthy and full recovery from your experience and I hope you and your family heal well and beyond expectation. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Stephanie Hoffman

My family and I have prayed for you and spread awareness of what had happened through social media websites, and also by writing to our state senators and our country’s leaders. I prayed that you would know in your heart how very much the citizens of America love you and appreciate your sacrifice, and that you would know deeply that you were not forgotten. 654. Joanna says:

    Dear Sg Bergdahl

You were released! I am sure to you, to your family these are most joyous, incredible, monumental, earth moving news, news to be thankful for. I wish you and your family most happiness in coming days, months, years, you all really deserve it. What a joy of being home, of holding loved ones, seeing known surroundings, eating missed foods. It will be most amazing journey back, journey that you cannot rush. Coming back home is wonderful, it will take time though to get used of being back. You were so brave in five years, you need to face being back that may not be as easy as we think, as we want for you. Give yourself time, be patient as what you left five years ago, may not be the same. If a name of Terry Waite is not familiar, do check it. He also published books that may be helpful. Do get in touch with people that had similar experiences, to talk, to understand, to be free. I wish you freedom Sg Bergdahl. Noone probably knows what is worth as much as you do.

    All Very Best Joanna

Worked and trained with the best the United States Army has sent out to serve. I have toured with The Rolling Thunder chapter of Maryland to support the POW and MIA. But what hits home with Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is that my brother is serving in Korea Sgt. Roberto Bernal. We will see him soon and that’s what hurts the most. That not all come home at the same time. But with support and dedication GOD will bring our troops home one day. And for this we pray Lord. #supportisnotonlyamagnetonyourcar

First of all…my deepest sympathy goes out to Bowe’s parents. I ran across YouTube videos about this heart breaking story, yesterday. And it saddened me. For the family first!! But also…that this story I’ve NEVER seen in the news. Now, I’m not one who follows news everyday, but to see it only on YouTube for the first time…never hearing this story ANYWHERE, lessens my faith in our U.S government a lil more. Its disheartening and a reminder ever more that our leader of our country, is so careless and caught up about his own image and quite frankly and very obviously forgetting about our men and woman out there fighting for us. Bowe’s story will not leave me until he’s brought home. Im so sorry Mr and Mrs Bergdahl. Ive prayed for him and them all that, one day soon…this nasty stupid unnecessary war will end. And get Bowe HOME, where he belongs!! May god be with us ALL!! Love from Alaska

Praying for your safe return home soon, SGT Bergdahl. America is waiting for you to come home. The prayers will continue until you do for all of us.

  785. Lisa Marley says:

    Hang in there Bowe!

To my county i say –
America what are you waiting for!? Bring this man home! What has happened to the United States over the past few decades? Having grown up in the Vietnam era I remember most concerned Americans anguished over their captive servicemen overseas. Even during the Gulf war our POW’s were given much attention in the media and by our citizens. I cannot get over the negative changes in our country since 9/11. Everything is WAY too much a big secret and politicians on both sides of the isles seem happy with the lack of transparency which Americans once came to expect. There is no excuse Sgt. Bergdahl’s welfare is not more of a concern – other than maybe addressing his return or exchange means that Americans would have to face their own complicity in keeping this clandestine war and Constitutional erosion from ending.

  786. Audrey says:
